VW type 1 verses the VW type 3 motor,,are they all the same? which is the best??

I have purchased 2 beeetles in the last month..The 1970 beetle has a engine code saying it is a type 3, engine code starts with UO465,,the second beetle is an AE engine code says its a type 1 motor... Which is the best or does it even matter,, there both

You will find that the type one motor will be more versatile and easier to rebuild. The parts are cheaper and easier to find. There are not any advantages of one over the other except for that. The engine is what you make it. You can do just about anything
