Can I put a 1994 engine in a 1995 car?

I recently got a 1995 Ford ThunderBird LX,with no engine.I might be able to get a 1994 mercury cougar engine (mercury's thunderbird counterpart).Just wondering if i can put a 94 engine in a 95 car.as you can probably tell im not too car smart.
